Bangladesh is a country of religious brotherhood. Here, people practice their own religion without any kind of hostility facing from the majority Muslims of the country. The festivals observed by the people other than Muslims have turned out to local festival over the decades. Rath Jatra is such a festival celebrated by Hindus. Rath Jatra or Chariot Journey is an important Hindu festival which refers to the journey of Vishnu to the sea. Hindus believe Jagannath or Vishnu as their God of the world. That’s why they worship Vishnu for their salvation. Hindu devotees arrange this Rath Jatra to get salvation by the blessing of Vishnu.

The chariot is held at different places of the country. It is organized at Dhamrai, Khulna, Barisal, Gopalganj, Comilla, Chittagong, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rangpur and other places of the country. The most colorful chariot is organized at old Dhaka and the biggest Rath Jatra which is equal to a 3 storied building comes to street at Dhamrai. The 60 feet Rath needs lots of rope to drag. It was burnt at the time of liberation war. A newly built chariot has been built later. Devotees from different places come to drag the chariot. Fair is organized on the occasion of the event at different places of the country which reflects the feature of traditional Bangalee fairs.
