Branding Bangladesh in Tourism

Modern civilization has been able to reach at its peek through the contribution of scholars who have changed the world with their invention, theory, philosophy and various creative works. Intellectuals of a nation always put their significant contribution in such a distinctive way that makes the respective nation distinct in the whole world. Like Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam etc Jasimuddin made his own distinct acquaintance in the field of folk literature which brought the enriched literature of Bangla language in front of the world brightly. Jasimuddin, a great poet in the history of Bangla literature was born on 1903 at the village Govindapur of the district Faridpur.

Jasimuddin was the pioneer revivalist in folk literature. He illustrated the colorful and vivacious life of the rural people very nicely. His famous work ‘Naksikanthar Math’ has been translated to several languages. He worked with Dineshchandra Mitra under a research project which worked on collecting folk literature.

Every year, remembering the great poet, 15day long fair is organized at the birth place of poet Jasimuddin- Govindapur in Faridpur. Generally the fair commences from first January. People from different places of the country gather here to pay the due respect to the great poet of Bangla literature. People sell handicrafts, kitchen utensils, sweets etc giving the fair a crowd environment. The famous ‘Gazir gaan’ is organized to celebrate the birth anniversary of the poet. Thus, the fair tries to hold the significant cultural thought of Jasimuddin at the proper place.
