Borsha Festival is observed in the Bangla month of Ashar and Srabon which compromises the rainy season (Borsha). In this month, the nature talks in rain as if it’s her only language. During this season, low lands are flooded and boat becomes the only way of transportation in those areas. Kadam flowers make a great effect in the romantic mind of the Bangalee. Poets have written lots of poetry regarding Borsha which has depicted the beauty of the nature in heart-touching stanzas.
Monsoon rain makes fine noise on the tin roof which sounds like a great harmony of the nature. During this season, boat races take place as part of the Borsha festival at different places of the country. The race is locally known as ‘nouka baich’. People from far places come to join the race with different types of boats, which also provides lots of gifts for the winners. They start the race from a certain place. Vendors on floating boats give the environment a look of fair. People from the villages come to see the race and encourage their village representatives. The race gives the places a festive look. The kinds of boat races are becoming rare now a day for lack of financial support. We should come forward to organize such kind of traditional program to hold our nation as a unique one.
