BADHONA PAROB FESTIVAL

Bangladesh is land of cultural diversity where almost 35 indigenous groups live along with the majority people of Bangalee community. More than 200 thousand Santal people live in different places of the country. Majority of the population live in the Northern region. Santals are the descendents of Austric-speaking Proto-Australoid race. They are one of the earliest settlers of sub-continent and maintainer of agricultural system in this region. Santals are very fond of festivities. Badhona Parob is one of the biggest festivities of Santal. This festival mainly takes place after the harvest of Amon in their houses. Now a day they observe the festival during the leisure period after the harvest of Boro.

Haria, a kind of alcohol is the mandatory part of the festival. People of this community especially the women dance with the bits of music after drinking Haria. The festival begins with worshipping the bad Gods so that they can not do any harm to them. The prayer takes place at an open ground outside the village. Then the old women dances with musical bits. People wear new dresses. Once upon a time, this festivity would last for 10 days, but as the time passed, the festivity last for 2-3 days now.
