The park was established as a National Park in 1996, incorporating an area of 1,250 hectares. Lawachara is 8 km from Sreemangal by road. There are various species in Lawachara like jackals, small cats, barking deer, wild pigs, gibbons, langurs and macaques etc.

To go to shreemangal the easiest way is by bus. In Everyday the bus services are available from Dhaka’s Gabtoli , Technical, Kolyanpur, Shaymoli, College gate, Fakirapul, Arambagh’s counter bus start for Sreemangal. And Bus fare is around 250-300 more or less. Beside this, others way are to Air & By Train. For this way first you will have to go Sylhet then easily could be reached in sreemangal. It takes about 4-5 hours from Dhaka to reach Sreemangal. Sreemangal is also famous for tribal living style, customs & cultures.
