General Information & History:

Rangamati is the biggest district of the Bangaldesh which is known as Lake City. It’s situated on the southern - eastern side of this country, 77 km from Chittagong. It’s area about 6,116.13 square km. It’s surrounded by Khagrachari, Chittagong, Bandarban, Tripura & Mijoram kingdoom. It’s temapareture highest level 34.6 degree centi grade & lowest 13.4 degree centi grade.

Karnaphuli, Tiga, Horina, Kasalong, Subolong, Chingri, & Kaptai are the main & popular rivers in this district. Rangamati is decorated with the natural beauty & green hills & burned soild place. Like most hill tracks area there are few many people live in Rangamati. About 50,7180 people live in the whole area. Among the population of 53.59% Male & 46.41% female & literacy rate average 36.5%. There are 10 upozilla, 9 wards, 34 localities, 50 Union Parishad, 162 mouzas & 1347 villages in this district.

People & Culture:

There are different types of peoples living in Ranamati like Chkama, Boom, Khumi, Khiyang, Lusai, Mog, Murong, Panku, Saotal, Monipuri communitied people . As people of different caste, customs, & culttural people are living here; different cultural activities used to go on here in Rangamati.

Places to visit:

There are so many places to visit in Rangamati like Kaptai lake, Kaptai electricity produced center, Chondroguna Paper Mill, Parjatan hanging down bridge, Sajek Valley, Buddhist Temple, Tribal Museam, Subolong waterfall, Chakma’s Rajbari & many more splashed fountains are to be enjoyed. The only Tribal Cultural Museum in the Hill Tracts is in Rangamati which was established in 1978. Cultural and socio economic activities and their history are preserved in this museum. Open: Saturday- Thursday, 10.00 a.m.- 4.00 p.m. Closed: Friday & Public Holidys. Admiddion is free. The most beautiful place to visit in Rangamati is the Kaptai Lake for boating and crusing. There are various spots like Shuvalong Waterfall, Barkal, Peda TingTing, Longadu, Mainamukh where people can travel by boat. However the best time to visit Ranagamati is the rainy season as the lake is at its best condition and the Shuvolong Water fall is most attractive at that time.

Transportation:

The safe and easy way to go Rangamati is to By Bus. Availble Luxurious bus services are from Gabtoli & Saidabad terminal to start for Rangamati. Bus fare is 380 Taka more or less & will take time 8 hours more or less to reach Rangamati from Dhaka. There are several bus companies available like Shyamoli, S Alam, Saudia, Unique. Besides this, there are more ways to go there buy Train & By Air . For this way is to use Chittagong Route. First one have to go Chittagong then easily get reached to Rangamati. It takes 2 (two) hours from chittagong to reach Rangmati. Various bus services are available from “Oxygen Circle” of Chittagong. Bus fare for Chittagong to Rangamati is Tk.85.

Accomodation:

There are some vary good private hotels in Rangamati. You may stay in Hotel Sufia at a very convenient location of Rangamati or you may also live in Hotel Green Castle. The facilities of these two hotels are very good and you may enjoy the hospitality of these hotels. Moreover you can also stay Parjatan Corporation Motel (Parjatan Holiday Complex) in Rangamati. The hanging bridge of Rangamati is beside the Motel and most attractive place of Rangamati city. If you want to live outside the city with an isolated calm & quite environment (half an hour distance by boat from Rangamati city) there are also three cottages in Peda Ting Ting. 15 persons can stay it the cottages at a time.

Once you come to Rangamati you will never foget its scenic beauty you will be allured to come again and again. If you want to travel Bangladesh you must visit Rangamati.
