Located in Dinajpur, Kantaji Temple is a Hindu Temple of the late middle ages. The temple was built by Maharaja Pran Nath. The construction of this façade took almost thirty (30) years. It started in 1722 C.E. and finished in 1752 C.E. during the tenure of Maharaja Ram Nath, son of Pran Nath. This is one of the exquisite medieval terracotta architectures of Bangladesh which once had as many as nine (09) spires, prior getting destroyed by an earthquake.

Architecture

Nava Ratna, is the Bengali of the English word ‘Nine – Spired’, the style in which the temple was built. The temple is 52 feet long and centered in a square courtyard, roofed by a shed of corrugated tin sheets.

A one spired isolated temple is located about hundred (100) yards north of Kantaji Temple. This believed to be built by Maharaja Pran Nath in early 1700s. The king brought Krisna Icon from the Brindaban and installed it here. This historical icon was later transferred to the core temple when its construction was completed
